If anyone hasn't seen the recent post on STOMP that disclosed several Singaporeans who've bought degrees from a 'diploma mill', here's the link.

Unable to curb my curiousity, I've goggled for some of the people and came up with a few distressing links. Let me first say that this could all be wrong and that the people I've googled and found could have worked hard for their degrees, PhDs, Masters etc - in which case I sincerely apologise - this is in no way meant to be defamatory or to injure your reputation in any way. Furthermore, I acknowledge that the people in question could already have good degrees but for whatever reasons (though this does not provide justification) decided to skip the arduous process of working for a PhD or MA or BA/BS and decided to buy one instead.

Consider this a musing of whether or not the distress of economics has compromised our values and morals to the extent where we would build a life around a lie - much more insidiously, if we would build other peoples' lives around our lie to have them believe we are who they think we are.

The 3 resident chiou bus from Stomp.com.sg who blog and phail utterly when it comes to giving informed opinions about stuff. But who cares, they look good.

On the left we have barbie beauty (plastic as well har har!) Dawn Yeo/Yang/Yohoho and on the right we have the twins May and Sue aka Choy aka whatever-name-shes-given-on-the-chinese-version-of-the-commercial.

Notice how I strategically cut away the woman's (Xiaxue) pic on the left, mainly because it's a bit of an eyesore. Not sure why she's so popular, but to all extents of my nigh non-existant objectivity, I feel she's just a fat, airhead SPG. (she admitted the SPG part herself)

Dear Sir

After much thought and no small amount of soul-searching, I have come to the conclusion that I must resign forthwith. It's not that I'm unhappy with my role as Chief De-beaker at (Company Name) but I feel that recently my role has outgrown my capacity to ignore the plight of these poor penguins.

I remember as a child watching, captivated for hours, the penguins at Bob Snarts Family Circus, Maidstone. Spellbound by their unfettered enthusiasm and dogged determination as the big cannon fired them into the safety net time after time, it struck me that I would one day work with these beautiful yet durable creatures.

Of course, when I heard of a vacancy at (Company Name) I jumped at the opportunity to fulfil my dream. I suppose I should have expected something by the fact that you are a food company, but it never occurred to me that penguins would suffer by my own hand.

It's bad enough that the public has been hoodwinked to the extent that they actually believe that McRon's Chicken Fryer is made from real chickens. Bad enough again that 90% of the British public have unwittingly eaten penguin at one time or another. But for me to assist in the cover up of such lies is no longer tolerable. No longer can I look myself in the mirror content in the knowledge that I hold the coveted "De-beaker of the Year" trophy, with over 9,000 'guins snagged in my two-month reign.

So here it ends. My story goes public and you go bankrupt. I can only hope that my example will be a "beakon" to fellow workers in this filthy industry to expose and denounce these murderous practices.

Having said that, I would stay for another £20 a week.

This is where beef comes from. We keep dairy cows in tiny cages the size of their bodies for the entire duration of their lives, artificially inseminating them so that they lactate and produce those mm-mm milk shakes that you suck on. (Did you know, they contain pus and blood and hormones? Sure you do! Ha! Ha! That's why you grow hair in funny places!)

And, we sell the male calves as veal, and we've heard raaave reviews about them young un's! After they've run out of milk to give, we prod those weak female cows to this special machine, where we lock their heads in a metal container, and then certified people cut their throats, and rip out their larynxes! We bet that hurt, but hey! Beef Tastes Good dunnit? So Quit Your whining, Har! Har! Har!

But he's so gentle to the people around him that we all know he's just a big teddy bear. That's me up front looking very uncomfortable as I was drunk then.

Alright, so it was a stupid game of touch body part to body part in some daft planning exercise. If there was an "ass" card with a "Balls" card, I think it would have provided some very rich entertainment (unless I was the one to pick the card, of course).
